After two years of being cooped up due to travel restrictions, we booked our first international pandemic flight shortly after Singapore announced that it’s finally accepting tourists. We were so excited to bring our four-year-old to Universal Studios! His last Universal Studios trip was to Osaka in 2019, and he couldn’t ride the attractions yet. So this time, we ensured that he gets to ride the attractions that allow his height.
We went on a Wednesday. We decided to go an hour before opening to have ample time to queue up, prepare our tickets, and check out the shops outside the park. We also used the time to match T’s height against the height chart for attractions by the gate. I’m so glad we went early as the crowds started to build up thirty minutes before opening.

TIP: Wait by the gates to be first in line when it opens and get your digital tickets ready for a quick and easy scanning at the gates. Strollers and wheelchairs have a separate entryway. Only one companion is allowed to enter the such entrance.

Upon entering, we went straight to Loui’s Pizza to have lunch. We think this is the best eating time since most people are already queueing up for the rides. We were the only customers then, so we didn’t worry too much about catching the virus while our masks were off.
We got a free lunch box with our kiddie meal order. This restaurant serves original New York Pizza and other Italian favorites. Kids can choose from Beef Meatball Mac & Cheese (SGD15) or Spaghetti Beef Bolognese (SGD14).

After lunch, we headed straight to the rides! The attractions at Universal Studios Singapore are based on a height limit, not age limit. The minimum requirement to go on a ride would be 80 – 92cm for some of the rides. Others have a higher height limit. The best way to determine this is to check the chart located at the entrance of the park (before the gantries) which shows the minimum height requirements for the attractions.

You can also check the height requirements in the official Universal Studios Singapore mobile app.

HAND-HELD INFANTS ARE NOT PERMITTED
Some attractions at Universal Studios Singapore are not able to accommodate hand-held infants. This is for the safety of the youngest park visitors.
Young children must be able to walk to and from the ride vehicle seats without assistance
Children must have the body and spinal control to sit upright and maintain the proper riding posture without the aid of other people or devices
Young children who cannot meet either of these requirements are considered hand-held infants.
Read more on the Riders Guide here.
MEET AND GREET
Meet and Greet sessions go on all day, but they only allow a limited number of guests for picture taking. We were lucky to have made it to meet Optimus Prime, Elmo and Grover, the Minions, Blue the Velociraptor, Shrek and Fiona, and Branch and Guy Diamond of Trolls. We missed the other sessions: Po and Master Tigress of Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar Characters.

WHERE TO SHOP
Shopping with our child in a theme park is much easier than when we’re in a toy store at the mall! Our secret? Enter the shops only after every ride. This way, he’s already too tired and hungry to go through every item in the store. LOL. Also, it helped that we created a list of things to buy before going, and committed to stick to the list! Here are the shops currently open in Universal Studios Singapore.

OUR TOP TIPS FOR A FUN AND MEMORABLE UNIVERSAL STUDIOS SINGAPORE TRIP
Bring your own water bottle. Refilling stations are everywhere!
Bring extra clothes. Tops and bottoms! I promise. you’ll need them whether you ride water rides or not!
(if you’re way too drenched either by sweat or water, you may go to the Drying Pods at Jurassic Park, for a fee).

Bring extra footwear too just in case. I brought a pair of light-weight slides.
Bring/ rent a stroller. Stroller rentals are available at SGD15 (infant/single) and SGD20 (double).
Bring your own hygiene kit (hand sanitizer, extra mask, wet wipes, surface cleansers -CIF, Lysol, toilet seat cover, etc). The toilets can get nasty! Sanitizer dispensers are available all over the park.
Get the express ticket for your sanity. Queueing in the heat with a little kid is not easy.
DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF! HAVE FUN! 🙂
Mask Policy
From 29 August 2022, mask-wearing will only be required for persons who are 6 years old and above at healthcare facilities, residential care homes, and medical and public transport. |
Children of 6 years of age and above must wear a mask in settings where masks are required. If there is difficulty wearing and keeping face masks on for a prolonged period of time, children 12 years and below may use face shields in place of masks.
Mask-wearing is not recommended for children below the age of 2 years for child safety reasons.
Medical experts have also advised that some groups may have difficulties, including children with special needs and flexibility in enforcement for these groups will be exercised.
